Insomnia

★ Humans and their fancy names

'I'm suffering from insomnia

When someone says these words, its sounds all so awful.

Insomnia? What a horrible, excruciating name. You must be going through a lot, suffering from a terrible thing called insomnia.

Really, it isn't much. Its just that at night, i can't get sleep. That's all, really.

But the sentences, 'I cant get sleep haha" and 'I'm suffering from insomnia' sound completely different don't they? One seems like a joke you can smile off, another a statement you get worried by. But they are the same thing. Synonyms almost.

What happens to me is like that. I don't get sleep. I just think of a lot of stuff once my head hits the bed. My hands get jumpy, they want to scratch something, crack knuckles, use up all the energy. And I just don't get sleep. There's a fancy term for this as well, psycho physiological insomnia.

Ugh, doctors and their enormous terms. Imagine, if your friend comes up and tells you, "Hey I'm afflicted with psycho physiological insomnia" You'll probably think he has brain cancer or something.

Really, all I do is just wander around in my thoughts, unable to sleep, unable to get up either.

But just think. If I say,

"I was awake last night'

Someone'll probably ask me why I was awake last night and perhaps a fruitful conversation will move on.

But if I complain,

"Ugh, I'm suffering from insomnia"

They'll possibly look at me and hear my fancy medical words and tell me I'm exaggerating.

A lot of people complain that they are unable to have intimate, serious conversations with their friends, family, etc; and they just cant seem to get closer with anyone. perhaps the reason is because we are constantly complaining.

'I'm unable', 'I'm afflicted', 'I'm suffering' bla bla bla...

The words us humans use exaggerate everything. Maybe not getting sleep is a good thing. Maybe you like lying in the bed at night and thinking about the world. A simple word can make people perceive you in completely different ways. Words may not speak louder than actions, but they definitely overamplify the action. Why do we use such words for such simple things?

Do such fancy words really help us?

If we didn't complain, if we were more direct, simple and yes, 'positive', perhaps the people around us would be genuinely interested and concerned with us. In your social world (not your corporate society, mind it) fancy phrases are often not taken seriously, just as luxury goods are not basic needs.

If we 'acted' less gloomy and depressed and listened to other people, would they approach us instead of us searching for them.

After all, no one wants to listen to anyone's complaints. Everyone wants to complain and have other people listening.
